LAKE REPORTS |
Many people will notice that Bella Misty is a fairly large vessel for Lake Whitney, especially compared to other boats used by Lake Whitney fishing guides. When I bought Bella Misty, I had been charter fishing in Ketchikan, Alaska for four years. And during that time, I had captained a 40ft Viking, 36ft Chris Craft Commander, 32 ft Penn Yan, and 30 ft Silverton for local Charter Boat Owners. These years gave me a great deal of information on what I wanted in a Charter Boat. First and foremost, I wanted a big stable platform with lots of open deck for fishing. |
Bella Misty's back deck is 11' wide and 12' deep inside. The second requirement was that the boat had to be a single level, no flying bridge. I wanted a boat that didn't act like a sail when the wind started howling, not to mention all the cost associated with maintaining two sets of controls. The third requirement was a modestly appointed salon, and a fully enclosed private marine head. One unexpected benefit of the Tiara 3100 Open was that there is enough room in the cockpit that passengers stayed in the action topside and rarely went below except for snacks, drinks or to use the head. The boat met all of my expectations and exceeded them in some areas. I believe that all of the criteria I used for choosing the boat can be applied very well to Lake Whitney charter fishing. I feel that this boat works very well for large family groups, and especially for targeting Stripers and Whites with downriggers She's been around! I found this boat up in Michigan on Lake Erie. The previous owner was retiring from big boat charter fishing. He had been fishing the boat on Lake Erie and Lake Michigan for many years. I had it trucked to Seattle and then barged to Ketchikan, Alaska where she fished Southeast Alaska for three years. My wife and I were blessed with two little ones, one in 2007 and one in 2008. It was time to settle down a bit so we packed the boat up, and had it put on the Alaska Marine Highway ferry to Bellingham, WA and then trucked back home to Central Texas. Lake Whitney was an easy choice for me. I had many fond memories of chasing Stripers with my dad on this lake. It was also a good fit because of the deep clean water and diverse flooded terrain. |

Bella Misty Fishing Charters is owned and operated by Captain Clayton Moore. Clayton is a Licensed Captain with the USCG and a registered fishing guide with the TPWD. A seasoned offshore angler, he began his fishing career chasing crawfish and perch in the creeks and ponds surrounding his rural Texas home. After graduating from college, he moved to Seabrook, TX and found a passion for the ocean and blue water fishing. According to Clayton, "…growing up, I always loved fishing above anything else, boats and being on the water was just a natural extension of that. It was only after I became a guide that I realized I enjoyed helping other people catch fish more than catching them myself." Captain Clayton has fished the world from the African Coast to the Gulf of Mexico, to the beautiful waters of Alaska. He has fished both freshwater and saltwater, targeting bottom fish as well as pelage's using trolling, live baiting, downrigging, and jigging techniques. All of these skills are used at different times to help you catch fish. For the past seven years, Clayton has been a fishing guide in Ketchikan, Alaska. Returning to his home state, he will now be fishing the waters of Lake Whitney targeting Stripers, White Bass, Catfish and Crappie. Clayton invites all fishermen, families and groups to come out and fish beautiful Lake Whitney. |
